Revolution Void deftly balances jazz and electronic music to create something that you would be comfortable recommending to fans of either genre.
Just when you think that a track is getting too comfortable, the music shifts and does something unique. "Headphonetic" starts off like stock downtempo, but then it breaks into a very up-tempo jazzy jam. "Nebulous Notions" begins with an electronic beat but eventually is overtaken by a jazz piano improv. The only thing consistent about the music is that it always sounds great and never gets boring.
Instead of the album sounding like sampled jazz music set to a beat, it sounds like a jazz album where samples and drum machines are equal improvisational partners to the classic jazz instruments.
This is a good album from start to finish. If you are a fan of either jazz or electronic music but only a casual listener of the other, this is a great album to check out.
